First, the principle of distinction — Lavender's 10% error rate means thousands of civilians were improperly classified as combatants. Can probabilistic scores based on digital patterns satisfy the positive identification required by international humanitarian law? Second, the principle of proportionality — permitting 15-20 civilian deaths per lower-tier combatant contrasts dramatically with the standard of 0-5 in previous conflicts.
