China AI Robotics Semiconductor Telecom Intelligence Briefing 2026-06-16
Tuesday, June 16, 2026
1. Zhipu released GLM-5.2 as open source. It supports a 1 million-token context window under the MIT license. The AI coding tool ZCode 3.0 was unveiled at the same time.
2. Enflame Technology passed its STAR Market IPO review. It has secured a 6 billion yuan fundraising plan. China’s four leading domestic GPU companies are now converging in the capital markets.
3. Robotera deployed humanoid robots in active operations at 10 logistics hubs run by China Post and SF Express. The robots sort 1,200 parcels per hour.
4. CXMT has begun supplying HBM3 samples to Huawei. Mass production is targeted for 2026. The technology gap with South Korea has narrowed to 2 to 3 years.
5. AI memory demand is surging. DDR5 prices jumped 682 percent, and NAND rose 807 percent. HBM now accounts for 23 percent of DRAM wafer capacity.
Zhipu open-sources GLM-5.2 and unveils ZCode 3.0 at the same time
On June 13, Zhipu released GLM-5.2. It supports a 1 million-token context window and is distributed under the MIT license. This is the company’s third version in three months. The shift from 5.0 to 5.1 was a performance upgrade. The move from 5.1 to 5.2 marks a transition from internal testing to full public release.
On the same day, the AI coding tool ZCode 3.0 was also launched. It replaced its previous system with the in-house ZCode Agent engine, optimizing GLM-5.2 for long-context reasoning and large-project execution paths. At a time when Anthropic is tightening access to its models, Zhipu has released both an open-source model and its own agent engine in one move, declaring an independent path for Chinese-made coding models.
Implications for South Korea: Chinese-made open-source coding models, backed by cost advantages, could spread into Korean corporate environments. The moment code is handed over to an external model, assets begin to leak. If companies delay reviewing their security guidelines, they will bear the responsibility for that leakage.

The FlagOS community has completed multi-chip adaptation and inference deployment for DeepSeek V4. It now runs on a unified software stack across nine Chinese-made chips, including Huawei Ascend, Hygon, MetaX, Biren, Kunlunxin, Pingtouge, and Tianshu. The system is being developed alongside the CUDA ecosystem, but it has already demonstrated that trillion-parameter-scale models can run entirely on Chinese-made chips.

Robotera deploys humanoid robots in active operations at 10 China Post and SF logistics hubs
Beijing-based Robotera has placed humanoid robots at more than 10 logistics centers operated by China Post and SF Holding. The robots sort 1,200 parcels per hour and run continuously for 24 hours. The company says they have reached 85 percent of human worker efficiency. In a round led by SF Group, Robotera secured 2 billion yuan, about 280 million dollars, with Sequoia China and IDG Capital among the participants. Starting in the second quarter of 2026, the company began deliveries in the thousands and reported revenue growth of more than 300 percent.
The limits are also clear. In one case, a human worker processed 192 more parcels per hour than a robot. The machines have moved beyond demo videos and into real operations, but they are not yet at the stage of fully replacing people.
Implications for South Korea: This is a benchmark that CJ Logistics and Coupang Fulfillment should watch. The price competitiveness of Chinese-made logistics robots could bring forward their entry into the Korean market.

EngineAI has confidentially filed for a Hong Kong IPO. The company is three years old and is valued at 10 billion yuan. One factory can produce one unit every 15 minutes. Unitree passed its STAR Market review on June 1 and is nearing an A-share listing as the first general-purpose robot company in that market, with a planned 4.2 billion yuan raise. LimX Dynamics is also pursuing a listing at a 6 billion dollar valuation.
More than 150 companies are competing in the sector, yet buyer satisfaction stands at only 23 percent. Supply is running far ahead of demand.

Enflame Technology passes STAR Market IPO review, bringing together China’s four leading domestic GPU players [Follow-up]
On June 15, Enflame Technology passed its STAR Market IPO review. It reached this stage five months after filing in January and going through two rounds of inquiries. The company plans to invest its 6 billion yuan fundraising target into fifth- and sixth-generation AI chip research and development. Revenue for the first half of 2026 is projected at 1.06 billion to 1.15 billion yuan, up 259 to 289 percent from a year earlier.
Following Cambricon, Hygon Information, and Moore Threads, all four of China’s leading domestic GPU companies are now gathered in the listed market. After eight years of developing fifth-generation AI chips on its own architecture, Enflame’s listing shows that China’s domestic AI chip ecosystem has moved beyond fundraising and entered the stage of capital-market validation.
Implications for South Korea: The listing rush is bringing in R&D capital at speed. Competition facing Korean fabless firms in the Chinese market is set to become much more intense.

CXMT begins Huawei deliveries of HBM3, with mass production approaching
ChangXin Memory Technologies, China’s largest DRAM maker, has supplied 16nm HBM3 samples to Huawei. Its targets are mass production in 2026 and an HBM3E launch in 2027. Average yield in the second half of 2025 exceeded 80 percent, approaching Samsung’s level. The company adopted the same MR-MUF packaging technology used by SK hynix, and its Shanghai back-end facility is aiming to begin operations by year-end.
The technology gap with South Korea has narrowed to 2 to 3 years. The only way for SK hynix to preserve that distance is to move ahead quickly into HBM4.

According to the National Data Administration, China’s average daily token usage jumped from 100 billion in early 2024 to 140 trillion in March 2026. That is a 1,400-fold increase. The change followed the full-scale rollout of token-based pricing plans by the country’s three major telecom carriers. In Beijing, users can buy a basic compute package for 5.99 yuan, about 1,100 won. China Mobile has launched a token operations ecosystem alliance with seven partners, including Tencent, Alibaba, and Huawei.

These are the core points of the 17 tasks announced on June 10. The plan calls for 75 percent coverage of 1-millisecond-latency urban computing networks, the creation of more than 30 high-value scenarios, and the realization of high-level autonomous intelligence in communications networks. The final target is to complete integrated services for "communications, sensing, computing, and intelligence" by 2030.

On May 31, the Bureau of Industry and Security issued new guidance. If the parent company is based in China, overseas affiliates will also require export licenses for advanced AI chips. The move is designed to block circumvention through subsidiaries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It closes a loophole that had remained open for about a year after the Biden administration postponed enforcement of its "AI diffusion rule."
(VOA, 2026-06-01)
In May, South Korea’s semiconductor exports to China rose 243 percent year on year. South Korea’s trade surplus with China reached 3.8 billion dollars, reversing from a 760 million dollar deficit in December 2025 within just six months. Demand for HBM and DDR5 for AI data centers drove the increase.
There are two risks. If CXMT succeeds in mass-producing HBM3, the market share of Korean-made memory in China could decline. If the United States adds HBM to its export controls on China, Korean companies will be caught between Washington and Beijing.
(TrendForce, 2026-06-03)
This week, three pieces need to be read together.
Enflame Technology has passed its IPO review, bringing China’s four leading domestic GPU companies into the capital markets. CXMT has begun shipping HBM3 to Huawei. DeepSeek V4 now runs on nine Chinese-made chips. Each item looks like a single line in the news. Put them together, and the picture comes into view. China is beginning to give real shape to vertical integration, designing chips, attaching memory, and then running trillion-parameter-scale models on top of them.
The most sensitive point for South Korea is CXMT’s HBM3. Yield at 80 percent. A gap of 2 to 3 years with South Korea. The only way for SK hynix to widen that gap is to move faster into HBM4. If the United States applies HBM export controls to China, Korean memory companies may enjoy a short-term gain, but over time that will only harden China’s determination to build its own supply. We have watched this throughout the 2020s. Sanctions do not erase demand. They change the source of supply.
Robotics is following the same pattern. Robotera’s active deployment of humanoid robots in China Post logistics is a sign that the age of demo videos is over. This is a market where more than 150 companies compete and buyer satisfaction is 23 percent. In a field of oversupply, only the few companies that produce real revenue will survive. Korean logistics and manufacturing firms will reduce their losses only if they time adoption by asking not "How cheap are Chinese-made robots?" but "In which tasks are they better than people?"
