Since entering politics, I have experienced many elections: running for the National Assembly, serving as a presidential campaign staffer, and supporting local election stump speeches. In every election, I promised to solve the pressing issues of the time. Some have been resolved, while others remain.
There were major agendas such as creating a business-friendly environment, shared growth, worker protection, welfare, and the expansion of health insurance. However, the 2024 National Assembly election faces a problem of an entirely different dimension compared to the past. It is a matter of the survival of the Republic of Korea.
South Korea's total fertility rate has dropped to 0. 7. With only 260,000 newborns in 2023, the number of military-age resources available for enlistment 20 years from now
will be a mere 130,000. Even if 100% of them were to join the military regardless of their health, it would still only be 130,000. Who will use all those buildings and apartments in major cities across the country, and for what purpose?
As life expectancy nears 100, how will we manage the healthcare, nursing, and support for over ten million elderly citizens? Twenty years from now, each member of the working population will need to earn an average of 200 to 300 million won per year just to secure the tax revenue and resources necessary to maintain the nation.
Otherwise, we might witness a rapid decline of the Republic of Korea, contrasting sharply with its successful prosperity over the past 70 years. We must achieve systematic structural reform of the state. We are standing before a cliff where the nation might collapse.
Despite this, politics shows no interest in solving these fundamental problems; instead, a criminal like Lee Jae-myung was elected as the presidential candidate for an opposition party with 169 seats and is leading that party as its chairman, while some in the ruling party are only thinking of sparking outdated ideological debates.
I wrote this book to present my past life, my experiences and achievements in the 20th National Assembly, my vision for national management, and my proposed solutions to the demographic cliff. It contains my will to govern the nation. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr.
