[AI Library] 37 Concrete Codex Use Cases - Chapter 12. Competitor websites, SEO, pricing policy, and review scraping analysis:
Chapter 12. Competitor websites, SEO, pricing policy, and review scraping analysis: a single view of our business weaknesses and opportunities
Foundation for beginners: Why hand competitor analysis to AI? When you are launching a new business or entering a competitive markets, such as landscape firms or web design agencies, it is essential to analyze how competitors get traffic, how they set prices, and what customer reviews say. But visiting dozens of competitor websites one by one to collect data and organize it into spreadsheets is hard labor that can take weeks to months. With AI agents like Claude Code and Codex, you can scrape competitors’ SEO status (backlinks, organic traffic), social media awareness, and pricing structure with one prompt and summarize everything in a complete dashboard. The AI even analyzes the data and gives strategic advice, such as "This competitor has strong traffic but slow mobile speed, so we should focus on mobile optimization."
Practical use case: building a competitor website SEO and health check dashboard. Suppose you run a voice AI agent agency and want to analyze your competitors’ SEO condition.
1. Prepare the environment and configure APIs. To fetch competitor data, it is best to use an API such as Data for SEO, a credential or access path to retrieve data from specific software. In the project folder, create an agents.md file and pre-load the AI with the instruction: "Use the Data for SEO API for SEO analysis."
2. Give instructions to the agent (example prompt). For beginners, give clear instructions about the role the AI should play and the outcome you expect.
Example prompt input: "I am planning to launch a new landscape company. I will provide URLs of competitors I want to benchmark, such as competitor-landscape.com. Please scrape and analyze the current business status of this site.
Collect the following items using Data for SEO API or web scraping tools such as Firecrawl, and visualize them in an HTML dashboard format.
SEO health check: check organic traffic, backlink count, and whether there are broken links.
Marketing strategy: monitor whether Google Ads or Facebook Ads are running and evaluate social media awareness.
Pricing structure and reviews: summarize the pricing policy listed on the site and analyze the available customer reviews.
Once collection is complete, based on the analyzed data, also prepare an executive report that includes the competitor’s Weaknesses, Improvements, and Keyword suggestions for targets we should pursue."
Once the prompt describing the AI workflow and output is entered, the AI immediately activates the scraper and explores the competitor website. In about one to two minutes, it produces and shows a dashboard with polished UI. The dashboard presents intuitive findings such as "Competitor Score: 0/100 (no backlinks, organic traffic exists)." What is more useful is the analysis the AI provides: "Competitor weakness: the pricing policy is unclear, which may cause customer churn. Recommendation: place a transparent pricing table on the main page to differentiate us." You can get this level of business consulting output in a few minutes, equivalent to the productivity of hiring ten employees.
